Telegram Ads vs Google Ads: Complete Comparison (2026)

📅 2026-04-03 🔄 Updated: 2026-10-04 ⏱ 10 min read ✍ Roman

Google Ads is a search platform: you pay per click on someone who typed a query, and across 13,474 US search campaigns between April 2025 and March 2026 the median was $5.42 per click, 6.64% CTR and an 8.18% conversion rate (WordStream, 2026 edition). Telegram Ads is a discovery platform: you pay per thousand impressions in channels people already read, and on our own Euro accounts that averaged €2.97 CPM and 0.85% CTR across 257.7M impressions, with a click to a channel costing €0.355. Google catches existing intent; Telegram creates demand inside communities. Telegram wins where Google restricts — crypto exchanges and wallets need country-by-country certification on Google, and ICOs and DeFi protocols are not allowed — and for products that live in Telegram. Google still wins for search intent, local and shopping.

The numbers tell a clear story: these are fundamentally different advertising platforms serving different purposes. Telegram Ads is a discovery engine for niche communities. Google Ads is an intent-capture machine for people already searching. Understanding this distinction is the key to choosing the right platform — or using both effectively.

The Fundamental Difference: Discovery vs Intent

The single most important difference between Telegram Ads and Google Ads is not pricing or audience size — it is the type of demand they serve.

Google Ads captures existing demand. When someone searches “best project management tool” or “buy running shoes online,” they already know what they want. Google places your ad in front of that intent. Search campaigns in the 2026 WordStream benchmark show a 6.64% CTR, and these are users actively looking for solutions. The conversion path is short: search, click, buy.

Telegram Ads creates new demand. Your ad appears inside Telegram channels that your target audience already reads. Users are not searching for your product — they are consuming content about crypto, tech, marketing, or fitness. Your ad interrupts that experience with a relevant message. This is discovery advertising: you are introducing your brand to people who did not know they needed you yet.

Both have immense value at different funnel stages. Google closes deals. Telegram opens doors. The advertisers who win in 2026 use both: Telegram to build awareness and community, Google to capture the search demand that awareness creates.

Cost Comparison: Where Each Platform Wins

Cost efficiency depends entirely on what you are optimizing for. Telegram figures below are measured on our own Euro accounts, billed in EUR. Google figures are the 2026 edition of WordStream’s search advertising benchmarks: 13,474 US-based search campaigns on Google Ads and Microsoft Ads that ran between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026, where each “average” is a median (WordStream).

  • Average CPC: $5.42 — from $1.63 in arts and entertainment to $9.87 for attorneys and legal services. WordStream calls the year-over-year results “fairly stable”.

  • Average CTR: 6.64%.

  • Average conversion rate: 8.18%; it rose in 87% of industries.

  • Average cost per lead: $66.69 — from $26.84 in arts and entertainment to $131.63 for attorneys and legal services. It is the first decrease in five years.

Telegram Ads Costs (our Euro accounts)

  • Average CPM: €2.97 across 257.7M impressions; average CTR: 0.85%.

  • By country the spread is wide. On Euro accounts: Russia €2.68 CPM, 0.65% CTR, €0.415 per click over 163M impressions; Turkey €2.92; Brazil €2.22; India €0.25 and Uzbekistan €0.20. Western Europe and the US we have only measured on TON accounts, in TON: Britain and Germany 0.27 TON per thousand impressions, the USA 0.39. Full tables in the CPM by country guide.

  • By destination, the average cost per click was €0.355 for channels, €0.223 for bots and €0.266 for websites.

  • Account types: Euro bills in euro and is the one these numbers come from. TON is funded in Toncoin; for a self-serve account Telegram’s page gives a minimum CPM of 0.1 Toncoin and names no minimum budget (source). Stars uses Telegram’s in-app currency and has the highest approval rate on our accounts (99.9%).

Cost Efficiency by Goal

For reach: Telegram impressions can be very cheap — €0.20–0.25 per thousand in India and Uzbekistan on our Euro accounts — though Russia, Turkey and Brazil cost €2.20–2.90. Either way the ad appears inside a channel the reader chose to follow rather than in a banner slot.

For direct response: Google Search usually wins when the buyer is already searching. In the 2026 benchmark the median was an 8.18% conversion rate at $66.69 per lead. Telegram has no comparable public conversion benchmark, because what happens after the click depends on your channel, bot or site — measure it with postbacks before comparing.

For community building: Telegram has no competitor. A click to a channel cost €0.355 on average on our accounts, and the subscriber it produces is an audience you keep reaching for free. Google cannot send someone into a Telegram channel in one tap.

When to Choose Telegram Ads

Telegram Ads is the better choice in these five scenarios:

1. Crypto, DeFi, and Web3 projects. Google allows crypto exchange and wallet ads only with country-by-country certification — in the US registration with FinCEN as a money services business and with a state as a money transmitter, in the UK registration with the FCA, in the EU authorisation as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA, in the UAE a licence from VARA or an FSRA licence to operate a multilateral trading facility. Ads for ICOs, DeFi trading protocols, crypto loans, trading signals and unhosted software wallets are not allowed in any country (Google Ads policy: Cryptocurrencies and related products, opened 3 October 2026). Telegram Ads does not run that certification scheme, which is why many blockchain projects treat it as their main paid channel. On our accounts 99.9% of reviewed Stars ads, 95.6% of Euro ads and 86.8% of TON ads end up approved, and over 98% of campaigns got a decision within three hours (September 2026).

2. Building a Telegram channel or bot audience. If your product lives on Telegram — a channel, group, or bot — advertising on Telegram is the shortest conversion path. Users see your ad, tap once, and join your channel. No landing page, no app store, no friction. Sending a Google click to a landing page and then into Telegram adds a step that loses people at every hop.

3. Brand awareness in niche communities at low CPM. Telegram’s channel-based targeting lets you place ads in the exact channels your audience reads. A fintech startup can target crypto and investing channels. A SaaS tool can target marketing and developer channels. At the CPMs above, you reach niche audiences inside content they chose to read.

4. Markets where your audience reads Telegram channels. Where people follow channels every day, a sponsored message reaches them inside content they chose. The largest volumes we have measured are Russia (163M impressions), India (17.3M) and Uzbekistan (6.4M) on Euro accounts, and the USA (14.8M) and India (12.0M) on TON accounts. We publish no Telegram user counts by country, because no source we could open states them.

5. Small test budgets. A self-serve Telegram account has a minimum CPM of 0.1 Toncoin and Telegram’s page names no minimum budget, so a small team can test channel targeting, creative variations and audience response without committing much. On Google you choose your own average daily budget, but at the benchmark’s $5.42 per click, $300 buys about 55 clicks. That is arithmetic, not a rule, and it shows why a small search budget produces little data.

When to Choose Google Ads

Google Ads is the better choice in these five scenarios:

1. Capturing search intent. When people search “buy CRM software” or “best running shoes 2026,” they are ready to act. No other platform matches Google’s ability to place your product in front of people at the exact moment they are looking for it. Telegram cannot replicate this because it is a discovery platform, not a search engine.

2. Local business advertising. Google Maps integration, local search ads, and location-based targeting make Google unbeatable for businesses with physical locations. A restaurant, dentist or auto repair shop gets its customers from “near me” searches. The Telegram ad form has a Locations field that searches locations inside the selected country, and which locations it offers for a given country is visible in the account; we have not measured city-level campaigns.

3. Shopping and eCommerce. Google Shopping ads with product images, prices, and reviews drive purchase decisions at the moment of intent. Google Merchant Center integration, dynamic remarketing, and Shopping campaigns create a conversion machine that Telegram’s text-based ads cannot compete with for product-focused retail.

4. App install campaigns at massive scale. Google’s Universal App Campaigns (now App campaigns) leverage Search, Play Store, YouTube, and the Display Network to drive installs at scale. While Telegram can drive installs for Telegram bots effectively, Google remains the superior platform for App Store and Google Play installs, especially at volume.

5. Retargeting website visitors. Google’s Display Network and remarketing capabilities let you follow website visitors across millions of sites. If someone visited your pricing page but did not convert, Google can show them ads for weeks afterward. Telegram does not offer pixel-based retargeting, making Google the clear winner for bottom-of-funnel recovery.

Using Both Platforms Together

The most effective advertising strategies in 2026 combine Telegram and Google, assigning each platform the role it plays best.

Telegram for top-of-funnel, Google for bottom-of-funnel. Use Telegram Ads to introduce your brand to niche communities at low CPM. Build a Telegram channel audience that engages with your content daily. Then use Google Ads to capture the search demand that this awareness creates. When people search for your brand name or product category, Google closes the deal.

Telegram builds community, Google captures demand. A crypto project runs Telegram Ads to grow its channel to 50,000 subscribers, then uses Google Ads (where licensed) to capture search traffic for its token name. A SaaS company uses Telegram to reach marketers in niche channels, then Google to capture “best marketing tool” searches. The community becomes a flywheel that generates organic search volume.

Telegram for testing, Google for scaling. A self-serve Telegram account, with its 0.1 Toncoin minimum CPM, lets you test messaging, positioning, and audience response quickly. Once you know what resonates, scale the winning messages through Google Ads at higher budgets with confidence in your creative direction.

A starting split, not a measured one. We have no data showing an optimal split between the two platforms. As a working assumption, a business that sells through search demand can start with about 70% on Google (intent capture and conversion) and 30% on Telegram (community building and awareness), and a crypto or Web3 project with the reverse. Then move budget toward whichever platform shows the lower cost per result in your own tracking.

Managing Both Platforms Efficiently

Running campaigns across both platforms creates management overhead. Google Ads has a mature interface with Performance Max automation. For Telegram Ads, ADSLY Pro Panel covers the routine: IF/THEN rules, Auto CPM, bulk operations across hundreds of campaigns, and hourly analytics. Instead of managing each Telegram campaign manually, rules adjust bids and pause underperformers and Recreate re-submits declined ads — freeing time to focus on cross-platform strategy.

Stop managing Telegram Ads manually. ADSLY runs Telegram Ads for 200+ advertisers — and every new Euro cabinet is a World account covering every available country. All 3 cabinet types (TON, Euro, Stars). IF/THEN automation. Ad text optimization. Bulk edit 100+ campaigns in one click. Start free — 3-day Pro trial →

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is cheaper — Telegram Ads or Google Ads?

Per impression, Telegram: our Euro accounts averaged €2.97 CPM, from €0.20 in Uzbekistan to €2.92 in Turkey. Per click on search intent, Google: $5.42 per click in the 2026 WordStream benchmark, but those clicks come from people already looking. For reach and community building Telegram is cheaper; for capturing existing demand Google usually returns more per dollar.

Can I advertise crypto on Google Ads?

Only partly. Google allows exchange and wallet ads with certification in each country (FinCEN plus state money transmitter registration in the US, FCA registration in the UK, MiCA authorisation in the EU, a VARA or FSRA licence in the UAE) and does not allow ICOs, DeFi trading protocols, crypto loans or trading signals (policy). Telegram Ads accepts crypto projects without that certification, which is why it is the main paid channel for many of them.

Which platform has better ROI?

ROI depends entirely on your goal. Google Ads delivers superior ROI for capturing existing search demand — people actively searching for your product or service. Telegram Ads delivers better ROI for community building, brand awareness in niche audiences, and reaching crypto-native users. Most successful advertisers use both platforms for different funnel stages.

Should I use both Telegram Ads and Google Ads?

Yes, they serve fundamentally different purposes. Google captures existing demand (people searching for your product), while Telegram creates new demand (exposing your brand to niche communities). We have no measured optimum for the split; as a working assumption, start with about 70% on Google for intent capture and 30% on Telegram for community building, and shift toward whichever shows the lower cost per result.

What is the minimum budget for each platform?

For a self-serve account Telegram’s page gives a minimum CPM of 0.1 Toncoin and names no minimum budget. A Euro account through Adsly starts from a €500 ad budget, or €1,000 for crypto and stocks. On Google you choose an average daily budget for each campaign (Google Ads Help); at the 2026 benchmark’s $5.42 per click, $300 buys about 55 clicks.

Which platform is better for startups?

For early-stage startups, Telegram Ads is often the better starting point: a low entry cost on a self-serve account, niche community targeting, and the ability to build an engaged Telegram channel audience that becomes a long-term asset. Once you have product-market fit and understand your customer search behavior, Google Ads becomes essential for capturing intent-based demand at scale.
